At DIY, the safety of our kid community is our number one priority.

To counter the dangers of the internet and keep our community safe from intruders, bullies and negativity, we at DIY have several safety measures in place.

One of our key safety measures is human moderation. We have a team of dedicated moderators in different time zones who patrol the platform 24x7 to track and block any suspicious activity. They are also available to help DIYers when they're in need. All kids need to do to get their attention is use the tag @MODS.

Safety

No trolls. No jerks. No exceptions. No Ads.

We have a proven record of creating online experiences that are safe and inspiring for kids. We do this because safety and privacy are paramount, but also because we know that learning and creativity can't happen unless everyone feels fearless to be themselves. DIY posts are only viewable by other kids on DIY and moderators who have passed rigorous background checks. No one over 18 allowed! Our moderators keep DIY safe for all kids, answer their questions, and provide encouragement and feedback.

layers of safety to ensure ALL content is kid appropriate

Content Filtering: Every bit of user-generated content goes through a content filtering system using a world class AI engine developed by Amazon. All the content is run through a moderation process.

Staff Moderation: After each content or post goes through the content filtering process, our staff of trained and background-checked moderators give this content a second round of human moderation.

User Reports: All the content on the platform can be flagged by a user to alert our staff to double-check the content and review it against our guidelines.

Parent Monitoring: When any kid on DIY makes any post, their parent instantly receives an email about it with the preview of the post. While this is a great way to celebrate milestones, it is also an important way that we keep parents in the loop.

Artificial Intelligence: We use AI to detect and filter out objectionable content in 7 areas: nudity, graphic violence, terrorism, hate speech, spam, fake accounts, and suicide prevention. All posts identified as such are ghosted in advance and do not get posted on the platform.

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

We adhere to strict community guidelines that we expect all kids on DIY to follow.

We are a company, sure - but the way we run this organization and especially the platform - is all heart. Our mission is to keep creating positive experiences for kids and we work tirelessly to come up with new ways for them to interact, create, and share safely.

Do reach out to us at help@diy.org if you have any further questions.
